Welcome back to another year in Class 2, I hope that everyone had a great summer and are prepared for the exciting time ahead.
In English, we are starting the new term with a multi-genre topic based around the CLT topic of the Space. We will be looking at The King of Space and our English work will be based around this. We are also introducing a class novel which will relate to our topic, this is for the children to enjoy and to introduce them to different authors and genres. All the children have copy of the time table in their home reading diaries, which details spellings, PE, Big Maths etc. We will also be attending Brackenhurst Environmental Education Centre to investigate propelling rockets.
In Maths, we are focusing upon place value and number basics. We will also be developing our times tables speed and accuracy in preparation for the Year 4 test in summer. We will then move on to fractions and the use of bar models.
In CLT we are studying Space, to ensure creativity, we will have an individual art lesson linked to our theme and we will also we listening to Music related to planets. Our DT topics, will be food tech which will involve sampling and cooking foods which are dried for preservation and next term we will be making model volcanoes.
During P.E. we will be working with M.S.P to develop our invasion games skills and will particularly focus upon special awareness, these sessions will be on a Monday afternoon and children will need a PE kit that is appropriate for indoor and outdoor use. Please can we ensure that all items of PE kit and uniform is clearly labelled! From 13.9.19 all the children will be swimming and so will need a costume or swimming trucks – not shorts. If your child wishes to wear goggles, they should have received a permission letter which will need to be returned.
In ICT, we will be looking at internet safety and the actions that the children can take to ensure their use of technology is positive.
This year we will not have separate English and Maths homework but the children will still have spellings each week, time tables to practise and as always are expected to read a minimum of 3 times per week. Extra work may be given if the children would benefit from it.
Thank you for your continued support.
