Queen Eleanor Primary School

Class 2

Welcome back to Class 2, it has been a strange few months and we have all missed being in school, hopefully we can now begin to get back to some normality.

Some children and parents will be feeling anxious about the childrens first term back at school and we would like to assure you that we will be monitoring all the children’s behaviour very closely, if we notice that they require additional support we have resources available to ease and alleviate any worries.

In English we will be looking at Escape from Pompeii by Christina Balit, we will continue to incorporate aspects of grammar and punctuation throughout activities; we will also link comprehension activities to our topics. New to this term, we will be following Jane Considine’s writing initiative to better engage writers and to improve our writing. We will continue to promote our love of reading by having daily class novel time and by making reading a priority.

In Maths we will focus on the basic elements of number and aim to fill any gape that may have occurred from being in Lockdown, we will look at place value, this will involve ordering numbers, writing numbers in words and digits, rounding numbers and rapidly recalling number bonds. We will further develop these skills by using them within the contexts of money and measures. We will continue to develop our times tables skills and there will be weekly opportunities to test these skills.

In CLT we are studying The Romans, we will look at their place and role in History and how we know about the past. We will study Lincoln as a Roman colony and look at how The Romans have affected our lives today.

In Science, we will be looking at light, we will carry out experiments to understand how light works and we will continue to build upon our science vocabulary throughout each lesson.

PE will be taught on a Monday afternoon and a Friday afternoon, we have requested that children come to school wearing their PE kits on these days; Premier Education, formally MSP will be delivering the sessions on a Friday. This term we will be looking at multi-skills and playing invasion games.

Following the great success of children reading a minimum of 3 times per week at home, we will continue this expectation. We envisage to hear the children as much as possible within school. The raffle ticket system will continue with a gift token draw at the end of each term. Some children within the class will also have additional support with their reading, if this is your child we will let you know via their reading records, please could you help us by hearing your child read every day as this has proven to be highly successful.

I thank you for your continued support.

Mrs Wright
