Class 3

Welcome to the exciting new year of 2019!  Everyone has worked brilliantly over the Autumn Term and we look forward to a challenging, fun and successful Spring Term ahead.

In Literacy we are starting the new term with a multi-genre topic based around the CLT topic of the Egyptians.  We will continue having our spelling tests on a Thursday and Reading Comprehension on Fridays.  We will be having three EPAG lessons a week, which should have the additional impact of improving our writing.

In Numeracy we will continue to follow the White Rose maths mastery framework and will be covering perimeter and area, statistics, fractions, decimals and percentages, algebra and geometry.  We will, of course, keep practising calculation and times tables with weekly tests.

In CLT we are studying  The Egyptians – focusing on the Pharoahs, Howard Carter and the pyrmaids and the River Nile. Our DT topics, relating to this subject, will be ‘Canopic Jars’ and our food tech will involve sampling and cooking foods from Africa.  In Art we will concentrate on Scarab Beetles and Death Masks.

We will begin learning about Easter, linking it with emotions during our RE lessons and will be considering different relationships during PSHE.

During P.E. we will continue working with our professional coach on Indoor Athletics on Wednesdays.   Once swimming finishes in February, we will start doing Gymnastics with another professional coach on Wednesdays and work with Hurricane Sports on Fridays.

We will continue our ICT lessons with Mrs Lister and are planning a holiday to Egypt.

We are all looking forward to another great term, filling in those gaps which have been identified in our learning over the first term. The children are enthusiastic pupils, keen to challenge themselves and progress to the next stage. I am very proud of all of them!
