Welcome to an exciting new school year for the new Class 3! Everyone has settled in brilliantly and returned with a super attitude.
In Literacy we are starting the new term with a multi-genre topic on the novel ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’ – about an evacuee in World War II. We will be revising VCOP/SPAG and Rainbow Grammar to improve our writing. Our work will cover both fiction and non-fiction writing.
On Monday mornings we will have Big Maths or a Calculation paper, followed by a Big Write or Rainbow Grammar. Spelling tests will be on Thursdays, with Reading Comprehension/Guided Reading on a Friday. Reading diaries will be checked on Friday mornings for the expected 3 times per week of Reading (Raffle tickets will continue to be given out for every 5 sessions of Reading).
In Numeracy we are beginning the year by investigating place value and attempting to read, write, order, sequence and round a range of four (and more!!) digit numbers, including decimals. This half term we will also go over the four calculations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division – including fractions! There will be weekly lesson on problem solving.
Our CLT (Creative Learning Time) is a whole school topic ‘Children In War’ involving work on The Blitz. evacuation and rationing. A KS2 visit to ’Eden Camp’ near York is already on the cards! ……. Art will be incorporated into this subject, as will a whole school DT day on food rationing.
’ Forces’ and ‘Our Changing World’ will be our focus in Science.
In PSHE we will be looking into ‘Growth Mindset’ for the first half term and in DT we will be making Anderson Shelters!
We will be learning Spanish this year and can not wait to show off our new language skills to you at home! Our topics will include investigating Spanish speaking countries in Central and South America, Spanish fruit and vegetable exports and the subject of school.
In RE we are looking at Judaism and the Holocaust.
During P.E. – on a Monday for KS2 - we will begin with Tag Rugby and Dance. We will also continue going swimming on a Friday afternoon to Newark which I know the children thoroughly enjoy. There are several sporting activities already arranged throughout the year for Class 3 as part of the Tuxford family PLT – more details will be published nearer the time.
We will be continuing with our ICT lessons with Mrs Lister, beginning again with the rules for e-safety.
We are all looking forward to an exciting, stimulating and successful year. We have made a fantastic start – the children have come back in a brilliant frame of mind and are giving 100% effort already!! We are eager to watch them grow socially, emotionally and academically – whilst having lots of fun!
